My son has a very kind and patient Occupational Therapy team. We are working on improving his finger strength. His COTA (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant) sent me links where we could buy some of the items she is using with our son in session. This therapy tool does contain small parts and should not be used around children who are liable to stick the parts in their mouth. Please, see the warning label below. Finger strength is very important for us to work on since it is needed to do tasks such as zipping up items of clothing, using a pencil, using scissors, tying shoelaces, buttoning up buttons, opening containers by himself, and other independent living skills. The putty has some resistance to it. It is not as soft and squishy as Play-Doh. I stick the little plastic animal parts inside the putty and have my boy pull them out by himself. I see that he uses his index and thumb to pull his "friends" out of the gook (putty) to help build up stregth in his fingers. Body awareness and hand-eye coordination practice are added benefits to this excercise.
